Martijn Luimes
About
Hi, I’m Martijn Luimes — a guitar teacher, songwriter, and music producer with over 20 years of experience in music education and production.
I completed the Berklee College of Music Online Certificate in Studio Production (2014), where I developed advanced skills in recording, mixing, and music production. In addition, I studied for one year at the Schumann Academy in Utrecht (Netherlands), a private conservatory focused on professional music performance and theory.
As a musician and producer, I have written, recorded, and produced multiple releases, including EPs, singles, and full-length projects. My work combines guitar-based music with modern production techniques, and I am actively involved in ongoing recording and release projects under my artist name.
I have over 20 years of teaching experience as a guitar instructor, working with students of different ages and levels, both privately and in structured lesson settings. My teaching focuses on helping students understand what they play, so they can learn songs independently and develop their own musical ideas.
Lessons are tailored to each student and can include song learning, technique, music theory, songwriting, and basic production skills. I offer structured 30-minute sessions as well as longer-term lesson plans for consistent progress.
Teaching Style
My teaching style is structured and focused on building a solid musical foundation.
I work with proven methods to help students develop strong basic skills on the guitar, including technique, timing, and musical understanding. This includes attention to music theory and ear training, so you don’t just play, but also understand and hear what’s happening in the music.
At the same time, I believe learning guitar should be enjoyable and motivating. Your own musical taste and input play an important role in the lessons. We use songs you like as part of the learning process, while also introducing new styles and music to broaden your musical development.
In my lessons, we focus not only on playing, but also on developing overall musicianship — combining technique, theory, listening skills, and musical expression.
The goal is to give you a strong foundation that allows you to grow independently as a guitarist and musician.
Curriculum
I use a structured teaching approach based on proven guitar methods to build a solid foundation in technique, rhythm, and musical understanding. This includes music theory and ear training, so students not only learn how to play, but also develop their overall musicianship.
My teaching is partly aligned with modern graded systems such as Rockschool (RSL Awards), which provide a clear and practical framework for developing skills in contemporary music styles. This approach helps students work towards concrete goals while maintaining a strong technical and musical basis.
Depending on the student, I use established method books combined with custom exercises and materials. In addition, I incorporate songs chosen by the student to keep lessons engaging and relevant, while also introducing new styles and repertoire.
