About

LUBA is a professional singer and pianist who has over 20 years of experience as a  performer and teacher.   She earned her Master’s Degree in Music Education from  Columbia University, Teachers College,  and  her undergraduate degree  from the prestigious New School Jazz and Contemporary Music Program in New York City.  LUBA was trained as a classical pianist and later became a jazz singer in New York clubs.  She has appeared regularly at the Zinc Bar with acclaimed guitarist Ron Affif, and has worked with countless well-known jazz instrumentalists.

LUBA currently lives in the Virgin Islands where she teaches piano, voice, theory and ear -training at the University of the Virgin Islands. She plays for church services and is a Cantor for the Hebrew Congregation of St. Thomas. She is a musician for hire and performs in resorts and  hotels.

Teaching Style

LUBA teaches voice, piano, theoy and ear-training to all ages. She guides her students towards greater musicality through the sequential study of musical literature, including but not limited to classical, jazz, blues, and popular music. Because of her own varied musical tastes and expertise, Luba enjoys exploring the connections between different musical styles, and is open to following a students' natural interest and inclination.

Great class! Luba is an excellent instructor for what basically ended up being a private lesson. I gained many insights on playing a slightly more difficult arrangement with rhythm and timing changes. This is the kind of class that we need to see more of on Piano Pass.

Curriculum

Luba tailors her approach and literature to the individual students' interests and abilities. She teaches the student to recognize chords and understand theory in an accessible organic way.
