Teachers who have not yet taught online music lessons via video chat are often curious about what to expect. Lessonface exists to connect teachers with students for these live online music lessons, so we've spent a great deal of time thinking about the experience and about how to make it the best for everyone involved. We present our Teaching Music Online 101!

Music Theory for Guitarists

Leah Kruszewski
Sunday, February 9th 2020

It’s common for guitarists to learn by ear, by mimicking their teacher, or from TAB.  Players can improvise, write songs, and perform without having a clue about music theory or notation.  Some don’t mind staying in the dark about the inner workings of music, and that’s fine.  However, many of us get curious about music theory at some point.  If that spark strikes you, don’t hesitate to seize the opportunity and start learning.  Investing just a little time in the fundamentals can transform the way you see and hear music and open up new avenues for your playing.

Monday, January 27th 2020

Lessonface hosted its first live online Open Mic Nights earlier this month! Experiencing the live performance of students and teachers happening from all over the world in the welcoming setting provided by the hosts Leah Kruszewski (pictured above) and Yonit Spiegelman was super-cool. Our trial run of this new community event was great, so we will be hosting monthly open mics on an ongoing basis.

Taking Initiative

I have had a great career as a musician, being able to perform with artists like Lionel Richie, Ricky Martin, Rhianna, Chris Brown and a host of other pop stars. I was also lucky to have 'A grade' endorsements from drum/cymbal and stick companies where I received top-of-the-line equipment for free. I believe I created a lot of these opportunities myself. I felt it all started with taking initiative.

The essence of this article is to always move forward as a musician and not hope someone randomly stumbles across your talent and offers you a gig.

The Strange Stories Behind the Most Famous Musical Composers

Olivia Pasquarelli
Thursday, January 9th 2020

Beethoven, Chopin, and Vivaldi… What do these three people have in common other than the fact that we call them only by their last name and that they had some interesting haircuts? These are three of the most widely celebrated musical composers in history, and also the three composers that Cristiana Pegoraro selected to cover in her upcoming Great Classical Composers class. They’re some of the most eccentric people who ever lived; they marched to the beat of their own drums, literally and figuratively.

Creating Stronger Solos

Francesca Simone
Friday, December 20th 2019

Most people think when they see their favorite guitarist solo, he/she is sweating rainbows and sparkles of guitar godliness: that maybe a thick cloud of inspiration hit them and he/she is now playing the best solo ever imaginable. Well, lemme tell you something, my friends: that is far from true. That solo was built from years and years of studying riffs, licks, techniques and developing tools necessary to build great solos.
