Violin Teacher Profile: Dariia Rakhmanina

Unlock your full musical potential with lessons from a dedicated and accomplished violinist. My name is Dariia Rakhmanina, and I offer a comprehensive violin education rooted in a world-class performance background.

My journey has taken me from the prestigious stages of Tel-Aviv to Cleveland, training under some of the most renowned violin pedagogues of our time, including Ilya Kaler (Cleveland Institute of Music), Janna Gandelman, and Hagai Shaham (Buchmann-Mehta School of Music). I hold a Master of Music in Violin Performance and a Bachelor of Music, equipping me with both the technical expertise and artistic sensitivity to guide students of all levels.

As an active orchestral musician, I bring real-world experience directly into my teaching. I have served as Concertmaster of the Cleveland Institute of Music Symphony Orchestra and as Assistant Concertmaster of The Israeli Chamber Orchestra, in addition to performing with the Akron Symphony, CityMusic Cleveland, and others. This deep ensemble knowledge ensures my students develop crucial skills in rhythm, intonation, and musical collaboration.

My achievements as a solo and chamber musician, including First Prize in a Tel-Aviv Chamber Music Competition and performances broadcast on live radio, provide me with unique insights into the art of performance, which I am passionate about sharing.

I am committed to creating a supportive and inspiring learning environment, whether you are just beginning your journey or preparing for auditions and competitions. My teaching integrates fundamental technique, expressive musicality, and a love for the violin.

Teaching Style

My Teaching Philosophy & Style

My teaching is a direct reflection of my own training under world-renowned maestros and my extensive professional performance experience. I believe in building a strong, healthy technical foundation — focusing on posture, bow control, and intonation — as the essential framework for free and expressive musical storytelling.

I tailor my approach to each student's individual goals, whether they are preparing for an audition, mastering a specific piece, or playing for personal enjoyment. My method combines structured technical exercises with engaging repertoire, always emphasizing the joy of making music. I am patient, encouraging, and deeply committed to helping every student unlock their unique potential and develop their own artistic voice.

Let's embark on a rewarding musical journey together!

Curriculum

Teaching Method

My teaching method is a holistic blend of the rigorous technical foundation I received from the American, Israeli and Ukrainian schools of violin playing and a practical, musician-centered approach informed by my professional career. I focus on building a strong, relaxed technique to prevent injury and ensure longevity at the instrument. This includes detailed work on:

- Posture & Ergonomics: Establishing a natural and comfortable hold of the violin and bow.
- Bow Control: Developing a beautiful tone through focused exercises on bow speed, pressure, and contact point.
- Intonation & Ear Training: Using scales, arpeggios, and études to cultivate a precise and sensitive ear.
- Musicality: Moving beyond the notes to understand phrasing, harmony, and historical style to create expressive and compelling performances.

I believe lessons should be engaging and inspiring. I tailor each lesson plan to the student's unique goals, age, and learning style, ensuring a positive and productive environment where students feel motivated to practice and grow.

Recommended Materials & Texts

I carefully select study materials to match each student's individual development. While repertoire is always customized, I frequently draw from a core library of proven pedagogical resources:

For Beginners (All Ages): I focus on establishing fundamentals with materials like the Suzuki Violin School for its structured repertoire and emphasis on ear training, supplemented by technical exercises from Essential Elements.

For Intermediate Students: To develop technique and musicality, we integrate standard études and scales, including:
    - Wohlfahrt "Foundation Studies"
    - Schradieck "School of Violin Technics"
    - Mazas Études Speciales, Op. 36
    - Kayser 36 Studies, Op. 20
Repertoire expands to include sonatinas, concertos by Seitz and Rieding, and standard Baroque works.

For Advanced & Pre-Professional Students: Training intensifies with a focus on virtuosic technique and deep musical interpretation, using:
    - Kreutzer 42 Studies
    - Rode 24 Caprices
    - Dont Études, Op. 35
    - Paganini Caprices
Repertoire includes major concertos by Mozart, Bruch, Lalo, Mendelssohn, Tchaikovsky, Sibelius, and Bach Sonatas and Partitas.

The ultimate choice of material is a collaborative process designed to inspire the student while systematically addressing their technical and artistic needs.
