About

Hello! My name is Zahid, and I’m excited to share my passion for music with you. With a robust foundation built over 25 years of teaching and performing, I specialize in guitar and composition. I hold a teaching certificate from Alliance Française, where I honed my pedagogical skills and developed an appreciation for diverse musical traditions.

In addition to my performance experience, I have taught at esteemed institutions such as Alliance Française and PACC, where I focused on guitar and composition from 2000 to the present. My teaching philosophy is centered on nurturing creativity and technical proficiency, helping students overcome the challenges that often arise in their musical journeys. I have successfully guided students of all ages, from beginners to advanced players, equipping them with the skills and confidence they need to excel in their musical pursuits. I look forward to the opportunity to inspire and support you as we embark on this musical adventure together!

Teaching Style

In my lessons, you can expect a supportive and engaging environment that fosters both technical skill and creative expression. My teaching approach combines structured methodologies with personalized instruction, ensuring that each student receives a tailored experience based on their individual goals and learning styles. By utilizing the Trinity syllabus, I provide a comprehensive framework that covers essential music theory, performance techniques, and composition, enabling students to build a strong foundation in their musical education.

I place a strong emphasis on mastering fundamental techniques such as scales, arpeggios, chords, and rhythm patterns. Through a mix of hands-on practice, listening exercises, and multimedia resources, I help students develop their musical ear and technical proficiency. I incorporate innovative strategies, including mnemonics, to aid in the memorization of complex concepts, making the learning process both enjoyable and effective. Additionally, I record screencasts and lecture videos that students can reference outside of lessons, allowing them to practice and reinforce their understanding at their own pace.

Curriculum

My teaching method is designed to be both effective and adaptable, ensuring that each student thrives in their musical education. I utilize a blend of traditional and contemporary techniques, drawing on my extensive experience to provide a holistic learning experience. Central to my approach is the Trinity syllabus, which serves as a solid foundation for students to develop their skills in music theory, performance, and composition. This structured framework allows us to set clear goals and milestones, making it easier for students to track their progress.

In each lesson, I employ a variety of student texts and materials that cater to different learning styles. This includes written notes, musical notation, and multimedia resources such as lecture videos and screencasts. By integrating these resources, I create an interactive learning environment where students can engage with the material in multiple ways. The screencasts, in particular, provide a valuable reference for students to revisit challenging concepts and practice along with me, reinforcing their understanding of techniques like fingerpicking, trills, and chord transitions.
