Great Fiber Arts Classes with Expert Teachers Online

Since first encountering The Penland Book of Handmade Books at the public library in 2006, I have been passionate about making books and have been learning and practicing the crafts involved in making books – binding, making paper, marbling paper, creating book cloth, and woodworking.

Roy grew up working in his family’s woodshop and has made fiber art equipment for most of his life. He frequently write for PLY Magazine and is the president of Lambtown Festival, the largest sheep and wool show in California. Cara Bevan is a self-taught, professional artist who's been painting and sculpting since 2007. Growing up on an animal rescue farm and nature preserve gave Cara a deep respect for animals and nature. Her work focuses on creating life-like animals made from gourds, wire, clay, and other unusual materials.

Harriet Boon was introduced to sheep and fiber in the early 1970’s, and earned a Master Spinner certificate from Georgian College in 1976. Since that time Harriet has instructed spinning, dyeing, and judging classes in Canada and in the USA. Her fiber addiction lead to establishing a small flock of English Leicester sheep in addition to a commercial flock.

Deborah Jarchow is a full-time weaver, author, designer, and artist who has exhibited at galleries and museums across the country winning numerous awards. She travels from her Arizona home sharing weaving enthusiasm and expertise. As a nationally recognized teacher, Deborah is known as a generous educator who makes weaving accessible and exciting to students of all levels.

Peggy Doney has been fascinated with color since her first box of crayons. For many years, she has been discovering color recipes using triad, value, and gradient studies. If there is anything that Peggy enjoys as much as creating with fiber and color, it’s sharing that passion with others.

Emily Wohlscheid is the fiber and metal artist behind Bricolage Studios. She works from a cooperative studio in Kalamazoo, MI and specializes in highly textural fiber batts and jewelry incorporating fibers and fiber themes. Through classes and workshops, Emily shares her knowledge of spinning, fiber preparation, and dyeing throughout the country.

Arlette Ngung is a textile artist, Pattern maker, and educator whose work explores the intersection of African heritage sustainability, and contemporary art inspired by tradition, sustainability, and the weaving together of old and new practices.

Beth has been knitting for over 20 years and is a Level 2 Certified Knitting Instructor. She teaches classes through the Apex recreation department where she loves helping new knitters get started and feel confident with the basics.

Justin Near​ is a Nashville fiber artist and homeschooler who has a passion for sustainability and supporting local and regional communities and economies. Growing up, Justin was surrounded by crocheting, knitting, embroidery, and sewing, and dabbled in many of those as well as closely related fiber arts.
