Intro to Irish Fiddling
So, you’re interested in learning to play Irish fiddle? Maybe you’re here because you want to learn to play Irish music in a way that sounds a little more authentic, or you heard an Irish trad player and you realize when you play a tune it doesn’t quite sound like that….
I’ve geared this course toward advanced or professional players, violinists who come from a note-reading background, classical players, or for those to whom Irish traditional music is relatively new. However, even if you don't fit one of these categories and you want an introduction to Irish traditional music, this is a great place to start.
You will learn a bit about Irish traditional music, how to listen, learn, about trad sessions, style (bowing, ornaments, etc), and at least one full tune! About half is listening and learning, and the other half is hands-on playing.
This course is in 4 parts:
Basics of listening and learning: who to listen to, regional styles, and how to learn
What is a traditional Irish session
Stylistic elements of playing: general, bowing, and ornaments
Learning a tune by ear together
What you get:
13 videos
4 PDF resource worksheets
tunebook with all the tunes mentioned and bowings/ markings as were explained in the course
free 30 minute lesson with me if you choose to use it - I will wait to hear from you!
I will be available for questions during your time taking the course
I’m very much looking forward to hearing about your learning process as you dive into Irish music!
