The Singing Sax-Songs to Sing

Easy tunes for beginning saxophonists

As the wind instrument that’s capable of producing as wide a range of tones as the human voice , it is fitting that we play songs. To develop a great saxophone sound with breath control and air support while imagining yourself singing as you play is enormously powerful and satisfying.

I have selected familiar melodies that fit well in the range of the saxophone with harmonies that are pleasing and interesting. The rhythms are easily understood by beginners and will reinforce music reading. I have transposed the music to keys that are also readily accessible to elementary and intermediate players.

I suggest that initially all notes are started with a tongue stroke and that legato or connected tonguing with constant airflow is used to maintain the sound of a sung phrase.

A pdf of each song can be printed and a track of the accompaniment as well as a demonstration track is provided.
