Traveling Flute Lady and Lessonface Instructor Kate Hicks

We all need a little more “levity” in our lives---moments when we can laugh with ourselves and relax a bit more with life’s experiences. And if we can help other people smile, then that’s even better!

Like other people, I have many interests. I love teaching music, learning about history, nature, geology and food. So, here is a fun way I have found to combine and share my interests through short videos.
I have a YouTube channel called, “Flutelady101”, which I started during Covid. It is nothing fancy, no editing and not viral. It is just something that I enjoy. Last Spring, I started posting short videos during my travels---followed by a flute tip. You can see me In Central Park, Manhattan playing an ocarina or standing in front of Napoleon Dynamite’s house in Preston, Idaho. In July, I played long tones in front of a Yellowstone geyser. A few days later, I hiked down to sit next to dinosaur tracks in Moab Utah. All are followed by a flute tip.
My latest adventure was last month in October, where I explored an ancient and remote coastal redwood grove near the wine country in California, called Montgomery Woods---home to some of the largest and tallest trees in the world. In this video, I am standing in the rain in front of a giant redwood tree. My flute tip? Hold your left hand up and down like a “tree trunk”. My next video? Stay tuned…I will be at an In-N-Out Burger restaurant holding the best hamburger in the world.
So, let’s try to “lighten up” a little, and laugh and smile a bit more each day. It’s all about the journey….
