I am a professional music educator and performer, and for the last three years I have been teaching a diverse group of international students in Shanghai, China. Alex Skolnick is an American musician. He is best known as the lead guitarist and one of the songwriters of the thrash metal band Testament and has played with several other bands, including The Alex Skolnick Trio, Trans-Siberian Orchestra, Savatage and the heavy metal supergroup Metal Allegiance.

A talented and fun guitarist who has traveled and played professionally for 20+ years. Jay holds a BA in contemporary performance an AA in contemporary guitar (both) from Musicians Institute, as well as an AA in music Ed. Jay has taught all ages and skill levels over the years, he loves to see his students reach goals and have breakthroughs!

Initially trained as a classical violinist, my current passions include Southern Old-Time, Irish, French-Canadian Fiddle music and Klezmer. In June 2011, I became the first teacher in Washington State to be certified in the Mark O'Connor Violin Method, a developmental curriculum of American folk music for students of all levels.
