Learn from Great Lyric Writing Teachers

I'm a vocal coach, recording artist, songwriter, and music producer with over 20 years of experience in the music industry. I specialize in helping singers, writers, and artists level up their craft, whether that's through vocal coaching, vocal styling, songwriting, song arrangement, engineering, or production.

My name is John-Francis Nnadi, and I am a music producer, composer, and educator with a background in Computer Science from Nnamdi Azikiwe University. My technical studies helped me understand audio systems, digital signal processing, and workflow design, which strengthened the way I approach music creation.

I have been a music educator for over 20 years in both private lessons and in classroom settings. I am currently teaching at Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts where I teach Jazz Vocals, Composition, Music Pedagogy, Singer-Songwriter, Music Business, and Music Theory.

My goal is to inspire creativity, and a love for playing. I began playing the guitar at age 13. Classic rock bands such as Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, and the Beatles, as well as blues guitarists Stevie Ray Vaughn and Eric Clapton, are my early musical influences. My love for music really bloomed when I started writing songs, and performing in bands in High School and College.

Give me the music you love. If it exists as a sound, I can work it out and teach it to you — on guitar, bass, drums, piano, ukulele, or almost any other instrument. I’ve been transcribing music by ear for more than 20 years — guitar, bass, drums, piano, vocals and other instruments — and have worked out thousands of pieces.

About Me & My Teaching Approach Professional Background With over 30 years of professional performance and 25 years of teaching experience, my musical journey has spanned across Mexico, Canada, and Brazil. I specialize in authentic Japanese music—from anime and video game soundtracks to traditional styles and modern film scores such as the Studio Ghibli sound. I can also teach you how to create J-pop songs across different eras (80s, 90s, 00s, 10s, and 20s), how to write lyrics in Japanese, and how to deeply understand Japanese modern culture, including anime and manga.

I'm a sound engineer with both Bachelors and Masters degrees. I'm also a professional singer-songwriter and artist with my own project (Mari Segura), which you can find on all music platforms like Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube, etc. I write all songs for my own project besides writing for other artists as well, from several different music genres.

With over 22 years of experience playing guitar, writing songs, and performing in blues, Americana, Nashville fingerstyle, rock, pop, and jazz, I help students develop the skills and confidence they need to express their own unique, artistic voice on the guitar and in their songwriting.
