Music teachers usually fall into one of two camps: those close to modern music — rap, pop, the street — and those with classical academic training, deep theory and refined technique, but convinced that real music ended sometime after WW1. I'm a full-time performing musician and music teacher based in San Francisco, California. Since 2002, I've been performing and recording my original music, touring internationally, and I've released seven self-produced albums. The TV Show, Grey's Anatomy, used my song, Carousel, in 2006.

Hi there! I’m Michael Lanier, and I love teaching music! I'm a lifelong musician of multiple instruments, and I've been teaching since 2014. I hold a bachelor's degree in music, and a master's degree in music education. I teach a variety of instruments, both common and obscure, across a diverse array of styles and genres.
