Plying Primer: The Basics of Plying Yarn with Jillian Moreno

About Plying Primer: The Basics of Plying Yarn with Jillian Moreno

Why ply? Plying your yarns brings consistency, durability and fun to your yarns! In this class you’ll learn the how and why of plying yarn. Do you have questions about resting, rewinding, or tensioning bobbins, counting treadles or how to chain ply to keep braid colors clear? Your answers are in this class. We’ll practice 2-ply, 3-ply, and chain plying to get the twist you want while keeping your yarn consistent.
We’ll learn about how to set up your plying tools, discuss balanced yarns, the difference between worsted and woolen drafting, and see how different basic plies and amount of ply twist affect knitting structure. We’ll even touch on plying color. If you are new to plying or just need a refresher this class is full of the knowledge you need to make beautifully plied yarn.
