Learn Felting with Great Fiber Arts Teachers

Tasha grew up in a family of makers and tinkerers and has been drawn to textiles of all kinds since she was very small. She is driven by the belief that making things by hand empowers people to live more joyfully and thoughtfully. In her classes, she works to build deep understanding through hands-on experimentation in a warm and inspiring environment.

Early fascination with fabric and fashion came from my seamstress mother. You might say fiber art is bound into my DNA. My felting journey began with a study of skin. Skin as a protective covering, and as identifier, and how it can record history. A study of animal skin, and human skin; leading to hybrids. All the while, intrigued with the way wearable art transforms its wearer.

Laura is a contemporary Renaissance woman living and working on her family’s century-old homestead farm outside Hayward, WI. From fiber arts to creative writing, music to storytelling, she never tires of the magic of transforming idea into form and overlapping narrative and visual.

Joan has been teaching art for over 30 years, first at the high school level, and then at Riverrun Center for the Arts. She has offered felt making workshops for 16 years locally, regionally and internationally. “My fiber art workshops utilize a technique I call “pictorial felt-making”, in which the fleece is layered and “painted” to create 2-dimensional art objects,” Joan says.

Hi there! My name is Katelyn, but you can call me Kate. I have been teaching English for 12 years. I spent some time teaching in China (I can speak a tiny bit of Chinese), and now I am back in the USA to teach online! I have taught ages 4 to 80 at almost every level. My goal is to help students become confident with their English.

Julie has been raising fiber animals since her teens, first on her family farm and now at her own ranch. Building on her love for teaching and design, her college studies focused on secondary education and costume design. After school , raising fiber animals naturally led to spinning and weaving and then into instructing across the country.

Kristen Walsh has been involved in creative things her whole life. She has been exploring fiber for many years – first knitting, then spinning and finally felting. Kristen has been earning attention for her felting, winning prizes at the Old Saybrook Arts Show, Marlborough Arts Center and Glastonbury Arts Show in Connecticut, selected as a Best in Show finalist at the Neptune…

Hello ! I'm Max, a third year Art and Design Education student at Pratt Institute. I am a drawing concentration with over 5 years of experience in 2D media. I am currently studying for my teaching certification and will graduate with a BFA/MA combined degree at the end of my program.

Jackie is a dyer from Maine specializing in natural dyes. She comes from a production background, having worked dyeing yarns in large dyehouses, and has been teaching workshops on dyeing for 10 years. She is fascinated by the chemistry of dyes and has been known to coax dozens of colors from a single plant.
