Hello friends ![]()
I've read some really interesting threads on clarinet design/intonation recently.
Coincidentally, yesterday, my mother-in-law asked me why clarinets aren't just manufactured "in tune" and I wasn't happy with the off-the-cuff answer I gave her.
So this video is the product of a day's-long meditation on the topic by me, as well as the wisdom I've gleaned from great clarinettists during my "playing" career ![]()
Hope there's something in here for everybody!

Love this reminder to spend time with my instruments to double check the overall pitch of the entire scale. I have a lot of instruments not just clarinet, and while I take the time to quickly tune before a rehearsal or performance I don't spend nearly enough time in practice checking once in a while if things have shifted.
