Temari Basics: Flowers and Embellishments
Temari Basics: Flowers and Embellishments with Dana Watson
Expand your temari basics toolbox by learning several different variations of the kiku herringbone stitch, commonly used to create flower motifs, and then learn some embellishment techniques to make your designs look more finished and complete! While technically a continuation of the first Temari Basics class (wrapped bands, spindles, and triwings), this class is open to all. While some prior experience is helpful, if you're an adventurous beginner, feel free to jump in! Students will be expected to wrap their own bases ahead of time (video provided).
This small group class is presented in collaboration with John C. Campbell Folk School and Lessonface. Students are invited to attend an optional Orientation and Closing Ceremony to connect with various online Folk School classes.
Class Materials
Students should provide:
Students will need to prepare an already wrapped base (requiring core material, yarn, serger thread), size 5 pearl cotton in 3-4 colors of their choice, a long sharp darner needle (ie, sashiko or Brazilian embroidery needle), thread scissors, pins (multicolored if possible), and a measuring tape with cm markings. 1/4" wide paper strips (as from a paper shredder or for use in paper quilling) are very useful but not required if you have a measuring tape and a willingness to do math.
