Award winning tabla player, composer and teacher Ritesh Das was born in Kolkata, India to parents Nrityacharya Prohlad Das and Smt. Nilima Das. He is the brother of the late kathak dancer, Pandit Chitresh Das. His parents had a music and dance academy, Nritya Bharati, the first of its kind in Kolkata after the Independence of India.

I have studied tabla for 30 years with 3 great maestros, namely Pandit Sudhir Saxena (Ajrara), Ustad Faiyaz Khan (Delhi) and Pandit Yogesh Samsi (Punjab) I have taught tabla and Indian Music Improvisation at the University of Sheffield, UK for the last 15 years at both undergraduate and postgraduate level.

Born in a Maharashtrian family, I entered the learning tabla at the age of 10. Being a disciple of many Tabla gurus I gained a profound knowledge of Ajrada Gharana. In the beginning, I was not developing an interest in tabla until I started to participate in district competitions. There a spark of success embraced me from which I started to take tabla seriously.
