Edges Bordering on Perfection: An Introduction to Knitted Borders

About Edges Bordering on Perfection: An Introduction to Knitted Borders

Perfect borders can be a pain to pick up. Learn to prepare for borders with neat edges on your knitting and how to pick up perfectly every time. You’ll work swatches with four different types of edges as homework, then learn in class how to determine the right number of stitches to pick up for garter stitch and ribbed borders, plus a variety of ways to pick them up. Be prepared for perfectly elegant borders on all your future garments.

A handout will be provided.

This class is suitable for adventurous beginners and up. Students must be able to follow simple knitting instructions, cast on, knit, purl, slip stitches, decrease, and bind off.

The capacity for this class is 25 students.

Class Materials

Students will want to provide:
• Plain, smooth, light-colored, worsted weight yarn in two contrasting colors (one for swatches, the other for borders). Note that stretchy wool yarn will be easiest to work with.
• Needles sized appropriately for the yarn for the swatches (US#6-8/4-5 mm) and needles two sizes smaller for some of the borders.

Pre-class Homework

This class requires homework to be completed before the first session. Homework instructions will be available to registered students for download on the Class Materials page. There will be additional homework between the two sessions.
