Great Fiber Arts Classes with Expert Teachers Online

I love to teach others the joy of working with their hands. I specialize in Macrame and Macra-weaving. I make learning the basics fun and as simple as possible. If you can tie your shoes, then you can macrame. Then I encourage each student to explore as he/she creates finished projects suitable for showing off to friends and family.

I was raised in an environment steeped in textile arts, guided and inspired by my mother and both of my grandmothers, all of whom were exceptionally skilled fiber artists. I began studying bobbin lace in 2010 after encountering it at a historical reenactment, and around the same time I started creating handmade buttons while producing period clothing for family and friends.

Spinning and natural dyeing have been a long-standing fascination of mine. I started off dyeing with vegetable dyes found in my kitchen and have since expanded to a wide variety of natural dye sources, most of which I can find locally.

Ginny has been weaving for the past 15 years. She has worked with most fiber related crafts and has never met a weaving or sewing tool she didn’t like. Ginny is a member of Mainely Weavers and the Weavers Guild of Boston where she served as the Chair of the Morning Workshops. She is also a member of the South End Woven Collaborative in the south end of Boston.

Janine Bajus is an internationally known Fair Isle knitter, designer, and teacher. Her goal is to provide the information that people need to knit their own stranded garments, whether traditional or wild, subdued or saturated, from a pattern or self-designed. Her hands-on workshops in custom color knitting are known for Janine’s unstoppable can-do attitude and step-by-step methods.

Sarah Spillers is an interdisciplinary visual artist living in Johnson City, Tennessee, while she pursues her Master of Fine Arts degree at East Tennessee State University. Spillers’ artistic practice uses sculptural exploration, painting, and printmaking to examine American consumerism, marketing practices, and mass production.

Geri creates mixed media art from her studio in Tennessee, teaches internationally, and her winning art is in museum collections. She was awarded an Appalachian Craft and Culture Fellowship at Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts and has taught at John Campbell Folk School for 19 years.

Kathy raises heritage Karakul sheep for their long coarse rug fiber. Yarn is spun and she hand dyes the colors. She became certified in 2014 to teach Oxford Punch Needle. Teaching is her passion and introducing students to discover endless creative rug hooking and punch opportunities.

Rebecca Miller is a writer, editor, shepherdess and dog wrangler. She runs Blue Heron Farms, a commercial sheep flock of about 250 ewes, in the Appalachian foothills of eastern Ohio. Livestock guardian dogs have been a part of the family farm for more than 15 years, but she began working with them specifically in 2016. She now has a growing pack, mostly of Turkish origin.

Justin Near​ is a Nashville fiber artist and homeschooler who has a passion for sustainability and supporting local and regional communities and economies. Growing up, Justin was surrounded by crocheting, knitting, embroidery, and sewing, and dabbled in many of those as well as closely related fiber arts.
