Pop Violin for Beginners

About Pop Violin for Beginners

Have you always yearned to play your favorite music on the violin and didn’t know how or where to start? Do you wish you could hear a song and just immediately be able to play along? Have you felt held back by technique and wanted to level up with the essentials so you can sound great playing your favorite tunes?

Pop music is an amazingly broad, fun and free genre, and playing it on the violin creates a unique soundworld that is emotive, compelling and stunningly beautiful. The music that you love to listen to on Spotify or that you hear in movies can feel so fulfilling to play on the violin — and the violin truly is the perfect versatile instrument for this exploration! While the violin is known for being extremely popular within classical music, the range of genres that sound amazing on the violin is endless, so here, we’re just scratching the surface through exploring pop! In this course, you’ll learn how to turn melodies from some of the most well-known and popularized songs into performances with confidence and style.

This class is designed for beginners or those who want to dive back into the violin! If you have some classical training and are looking to explore pop as a new genre, this is perfect for you too! It’s a great environment where you can be bold, curious, and explore modern music using tried and true violin technique that will guarantee you sounding awesome and feeling confident! You’ll build strong fundamentals — posture, bow control, tone production, and rhythm — while playing beautiful and iconic pop songs. Along the way, you’ll develop smart practice habits and techniques that set you up for success in any style of violin playing.

By the end of the course, you’ll have a toolkit of essential exercises and several pop arrangements you’ll be proud to perform for friends, family, or even gigs!

This class is limited to 20 students.

Skill Level

No violin background is required, as long as you have access to a violin. I'll teach you how to have the right posture and set-up on the violin in our first meeting, and we'll also learn how to read sheet music if that's new for you. I'll be going over the essential technical foundation you need to sound great playing pop music!
