About This Lesson:
If you hum brilliant melodies only to have them "evaporate" the moment you pick up your instrument, or if you struggle to do more with music than play what is already written on the score, this lesson has been designed for you.
In this interactive workshop, we will bridge the gap between your inner ear and your fingers. We’ll explore enjoyable ways to approach ear training, demystifying the process of melodic creation and dictation. By the end of the session, you won’t just be "guessing" notes; you’ll be hearing the "architecture" of music.
Goals:
1. Identify the "Power Intervals": Master the sound and "physical shape" of the Perfect Fifth (P5) and Major Third (M3).
2. The "Ghost" Transcription: Learn to transcribe a simple melody in real-time without "hunt-and-peck" guessing.
3. The Fanfare Challenge: Apply your new skills to compose an original, military-style trumpet melody from scratch.
4. Shape Muscle Memory on Your Instrument: Develop a toolkit of interval patterns you can use on any instrument.
Skill Level
Skill Level & Materials:
• Level: Open to all, without any prior theory knowledge required. Ideal for beginners or intermediate players who struggle with "playing by ear."
• Materials: A harmonic instrument is preferable (piano/keyboard or guitar are best). A notebook and pen for sketching melodies.
