Hello Exploring Flamenco Students! Listening to flamenco is critical to making sense of the material you're learning. I thought I'd start off our class discussion with some examples of Farruca and Guajira. I've included some traditional examples and some more modern examples. In general, traditional examples will sound more like what we're learning in class. Please check them out and share your thoughts, questions, and other recordings you find below.
Farruca
Sabicas
Niño Miguel (this Farruca is in a different key than ours)
Paco de Lucia

See you later in class today!

Thanks for these - some of my favorite pieces are included!
Thanks for taking the time to check them out Wally :) Glad I included some of your favorites!

Hello all! Is anyone else is having difficulty accessing the class videos? Not sure if it's a glitch or just me. The issue started yesterday (Friday 2/4).
Hope this finds everyone well. Thanks!
As soon as the videos are available I open them up and save them to OneDrive. That way I can access them whenever.
But to answer your specific question, I just went to Lessonface and had no trouble accessing the videos.
I connected tech support and they were able to resolve the issue. Thanks for the suggestion Wally! That's what I'll do moving forward :-)
Had a very sketchy internet connection for today's class, but have already downloaded to video - thanks for those!
Hi Leah, In guajira falseta 4, 1st 2 beats/1st line where you're saying to use 2/1 for left hand fingering (m, i). If I use 1/2 (i,m) it's easier to get to 5/6. But will I get in trouble at some point, like in a chord change in the future? I see it's part of an A maj chord.
Well, looks like I've answered my own question, playing around with it I found that the transition from the way it's written is easier to get to the second measure fingering.....
Hi Lou, sorry for the slow reply! You're exactly right with the Guajira fingering. The fingering I wrote is idea for the changes later on. You figured it out :)
Hi students of Exploring Flamenco: Farruca & Guajira,
This Sunday (March 20) we'll be going over how to arrange your Farruca and Guajira into solos.
In the coming 1-2 weeks, we'd love to see your playing of these two palos in this forum thread! Please record a video of either of these two subjects:
1. Any segment or falseta you particularly enjoy playing
2. Your own arrangement of Farruca and Guajira using class material. Remember that a good structure to follow if you're just starting out would be:
· compás (1, 2, or 3, the variations of your choice)
· falseta (you choose!)
· 1-2 compás
· falseta
· compás (or ending, if you've learned one of the closings I've taught)
No pressure to record a long or epic video. 1-2 minutes is just fine.
I've enjoyed teaching this course and look forward to seeing your playing!
Leah
Hi Leah and everybody! This is my bit of Guajira with compas, falseta, compas, falseta and compas. Complete with mistakes and speeding up where I shouldn't have etc., etc. Fun nonetheless!
Hi Jack and Eric, these videos are terrific, really nice playing both of you.
Jack your Guajira sounds terrific! So does your Farruca. Keep working on the evenness of your pimi arpeggio - you've come a long way improving it, I think you could get it even smoother still.
Eric, great playing! You already know what to focus on as you continue practicing
Thank you both for sharing your arrangements!
See you soon :)

Hello Leah and my fellow flamenco enthusiasts, Farucca I need to have is smoother and with less mistakes. But here is it.
This is terrific, Avin! I'm so glad you took the time to record and share :) No worries at all about the pauses and errors - that's part of the process. You're learning and improving all the time and it sounds great.
Thanks everyone so far who have shared their videos! The rest of you are also welcome too - no stress, remember it can be very short if you want :)
Leah
Thanks Leah. In flamenco music style my favorite flamenco guitarists are Paco De Lucia and Paco Pena.
